McGhee, David Ambrose

Died. Born Oct 6, 1849. died Apr 8, 1930, age 80. Father Ambrose McGhee. Mother Judith Couchrum McGhee. Survived by wife Mary Catherine Lusk McGhee, four sons and six daughters. Cooper funeral home, Miami Oklahoma Burial in Timberhill cemetery, west of Miami.

David A. Mcghee, one of the Confederate soldiers in the area, died near Dodge Oklahoma. He had participated in many battles then served under General Stand Watie. He held several positions under the Cherokee government, and was appointed by the chief of the Cherokee nation to investigate and enroll destitute Cherokees... He was born near Southwest City Missouri. His father married a Cherokee Indian and the family moved to the Cherokee section of Oklahoma Indian Territory. In 1863 he married Mary Lusk, of Arkansas.
