Picher Oklahoma, May 20.--William Van Noy, 29 Years old, a hard rock lead and zinc miner, died at 9:30 this morning at a local hospital as a result of injuries received an hour before when he was caught between two boulders at the New Chicago Mine No. 2, southeast of Picher. Van Noy was standing on one slab, trimming the roof, when another slab broke loose and fell upon him, crushing him between the two boulders. Van Noy lived south of Picher. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Mary Van Noy, and two children, one 18 months old and the other three years old. He leaves his mother, who lives in Picher. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The body is at the Todd undertaking company, of Picher.
Picher Oklahoma, May 21.--Funeral services for William Van Noy, 29 years old, who died at a local hospital yesterday, May 21, 1925, from injuries sustained at the New Chicago Mine No. 2, a hard rock lead and zinc mine, will be held at the Union church either Friday or Saturday afternoon. The completion of funeral arrangements await the arrival of relatives. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami, by the Todd undertaking company, of Picher.
Miner's Widow Sues for Death Expenses
Mrs. Mary Van Noy of Picher filed suit last Wednesday in Ottawa county Oklahoma district court at Miami against the New Chicago Mining Corporation of $381 for expenses incident to the death of her husband, William Van Noy, 29 years old, who lost his life in an accident at the New Chicago Mine No. 2, southeast of Picher Oklahoma, May 20. Attached to the suit is an agreement between the plaintiff and the defendant that the mining company will pay the $381 asked as soon as judgment is rendered. Van Noy, employed as a machine helper, was standing on one slab trimming the roof when another slab broke loose and fell upon him, crushing him between the two. He died an hour later in a Picher hospital, Picher Oklahoma. Besides his widow he left two children, one 3 years old and the other 18 months old.
