Acme Mine
Commerce Oklahoma, Jan 26.--The funeral of W. E. Stephens, who died suddenly at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon while at work as a jig man at the Acme Mine, will be held at the family home at 401 South Short street, Commerce, at 10 o'clock Monday. Burial will be in the Forest Park cemetery, Joplin Missouri, under the direction of the N. W. Green undertaking company. Stephens was well known among mining men of this district. He had resided in Commerce the last nine years and prior to locating here resided in Carterville Missouri. Besides his wife, he is survived by eight children and two step-children. They are Hez Stephens, formerly an undertaker of Picher Oklahoma, who recently removed to Wilmington California; Mrs. Allie Hood and Mrs. I. V. Peppers of Carterville Missouri; Miss Dame Stephens, a teacher in the Picher Oklahoma public schools, and Letta Stephens, Juanita Stephens, Lillie Stephens and Lila Stephens who reside at home.
Mr. Stephens' death came as a shock to his many friends as he was supposed to be in excellent health. He had just gone to work after eating a hearty supper. Death is supposed to have been caused by heart disease.
