Picher Oklahoma, March 8.--James Slatton a well known hard rock lead and zinc miner, died at 4 Monday morning at St. John's hospital, Joplin Missouri. Another man by the name of Charles Johnson, age 17, was killed at the same time. Early in January, Slatton was injured in the back by falling rocks while engaged in the duties of roof trimming at the Premier Mine on South Main street, Picher. Immediately afterward he was taken to the Picher hospital and later released. After remaining at home in Picher for a few days complications developed and he was removed to the Joplin institution, where he was said to be affected by enlargement of the liver. He is survived by a wife, two daughters and a son, James "Casey" Slatton, who is well known in boxing circles as a promising amateur. The Todd undertaking company, of Picher brought the body to their morgue. Funeral arrangements are not complete. Note: An article on the accident at the time it happened was not located.
