Shaver, Roy E.
Age 36
Central Mill
A fall between slowly moving railroad cars at 10:30 am today was fatal to Roy E. Shaver, 36, Cardin Oklahoma, a chat loader employed at the Central Mill of the Eagle Picher Lead Company. Shaver, his body cut in two, was instantly killed. The accident was witnessed by Clyde Howard, a fellow employee. However, when Howard saw Shaver fall, he believed he had fallen back into one of the cars. It was not learned how many cars passed over the victim's body before the train was stopped. According to Charles Kellar, an office employee, the train was moving about three miles an hour. He discounted the possibility that Shaver lost his balance due to a sudden lurch of the train, but advanced the explanation that the accident could have been caused by the wet surface on which Shaver was standing, inasmuch as the accident occurred during the rain this morning.
Shaver, who had been an employee of the Eagle Picher Company about three years, is survived by his wife and two children. He had been a resident of Cardin Oklahoma for several years.
