James L. Sanders, 25 years old, more familiarly known as"Smalley" Sanders met instant death last night, Jan 1, 1925, shortly before 10 pm at the Tulsa-Quapaw Mine northwest of here, as the result of a premature explosion. The young man's body was badly mangled by the flying mass of rock. Sanders was employed as a powder helper. He was working with his father, Frank Sanders, powderman. The men were engaged in loading a round of holes, young Sanders on one side of a pillar, and his father on the reverse side. This saved the father from serious injury.

The young man was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanders, 530 South River street, of Picher Oklahoma. He is survived by two brothers, Paul Sanders of this city, and Carl Sanders, residing on a farm in Delaware county Oklahoma, and several sisters. Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. The Rev. W. D. Carey will officiate and burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami Oklahoma, under direction of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher Oklahoma.

The funeral of James L. Sanders, 25 years old, who was killed at the Tulsa-Quapaw Mine, Picher Oklahoma, Thursday night by a premature explosion, has been postponed until Wednesday at 2 pm. The change in the hour of the funeral was due to the delayed arrival of a sister from California. The funeral will be held from the First Methodist church. The Rev. W. D. Cater and the Rev. Wesley Post will officiate. Burial will be in the Miami cemetery.
