Cardin Oklahoma, Jan 29.--One miner was killed instantly and two were injured, one seriously, when the former struck a dynamite-studded boulder, with a hammer in the Kitty Mine in West Cardin Oklahoma at 8:30 o'clock this morning.

Richard M. Robinson, 22 year old Cardin machine man, was killed; Clifford Crane, 44, a Commerce shoveler, was injured about the eyes and probably will lose the sight of one of them, and F. Ellis, 22, Robinson's helper, was slightly injured. A boulder, which miners knew held an unexploded charge, according to mine officials, was on the stope of the drift in which the men were working. Robinson rolled the boulder from the tope and his helper suggested that they put a small "pop" charge in it to set off the unexploded charge without danger to themselves. "No, I'll break it with a hammer," Robinson replied, according to his fellow workers. With the words, "I'll save the shoveler the trouble," Robinson brought the hammer down on the rock.

Robinson was so close to the center of the resultant explosion that he did not have a chance to escape death. His body was badly mutilated. Falling rock from the shattered roof struck and injured Crane. Ellis escaped with a leg injury by running.

B. N. Lusk, ground boss, A. Van Noss, a shoveler, narrowly escaped injury. They were coming around a pillar in the heading when the explosion occurred.

Crane was rushed to the Miami Baptist hospital in the Todd ambulance of Picher Oklahoma. Hospital attaches stated this noon that he probably would recover. Ellis was treated by a Commerce Oklahoma doctor.

Robinson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Robinson; two daughters, Alice Lulu Robinson, 3, and an 11 months old infant, and his mother, Mrs. Alice Robinson, who lives at the family home in the northwest part of Cardin.

The Todd undertaking company, has charge of the body. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but services probably will be held from the Latter Day Saints church at Cardin at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial probably will be in the Miami cemetery.

R. L. Kidner is manager and J. H. Minnick is superintendent of the Kitty Mine.
