Sherman Poynter, a Picher Oklahoma hard rock lead and zinc miner, still was unconscious late Saturday after being injured presumably by a rock fall at the O. L. & G. Mine shaft of the Rialto Mine about noon. Fellow workman noticed Poyner's mining light was out, investigated and found him lying in a drift where he was working. At the American hospital, Picher Oklahoma where he was taken in a Durnil ambulance, an aide there after a preliminary examination, said Poynter received head, knee and back injuries. On Saturday night a nurse said he apparently was suffering from a concussion and was in serious condition.

Picher Oklahoma, June 10- Sherman O'Dell Poynter, 31 years old, died at 12:15 o'clock this morning in the American hospital at Picher, where he had been a patient since Saturday afternoon when he suffered a skull fracture in an accident at the Rialto Mine. A machine man in the ground, Poynter was injured when he was struck by falling rock. He never regained consciousness.

Surviving are his widow, Juanita Poynter; two sons, William O. Poynter and Jerry Allen Poynter at home; two daughter, Joan Poynter and Patricia Jane Poynter, also of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Poynter of Chelsea Oklahoma; one brother and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, and burial will be at Chelsea Oklahoma under direction of the Durnil funeral home of Picher.

Picher Oklahoma, June 10 Funeral services for Sherman Odell Poynter, 31 years old, who died at 12:55 this morning at the American hospital at Picher as a result of injuries received last Saturday in a mine accident, will be held at 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Methodist church. The Rev. J. H. Mott will officiate and burial will be at Chelsea Oklahoma, under the direction of the Durnil funeral home. Mr. Poynter was employed as a machine man at the Rialto Mine located on the Picher-Cardin Oklahoma road. He was injured shortly after noon Saturday and was believed to have been hit in the head with a falling rock, although there was no witness to the accident. Fellow workmen discovered him lying on a pile of rocks in the ground after his light had been missed. He was brought to the hospital at Picher and was unconscious most of the time since the accident.

He had lived in Picher for six years and been employed in the mines during this time. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Juanita Poynter; two sons, William Odell Poynter and Jerry Allen Poynter; two daughters, Joan Poynter and Patricia Jane Poynter, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Poynter of Chelsea; a brother, Charles Poynter of Edinburg Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Blunt of Rockwell Texas, Mrs. R. D. Thompson of Eldorado Oklahoma and Mrs. Charles King of Garland Texas.
