Wade No. 2 Mine
Picher Oklahoma, April 27.--Rufus Nolan, ground boss at the Wade Mine No. 2, is in a critical condition at the American hospital at Picher following an accident shortly before noon today. An emery wheel, which Nolan was operating, bursted and a section struck him in the right side of the head, fracturing his skull and piercing his right eye. He will lose the sight of the eye, physicians said. Nolan was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance called from the Todd undertaking company, of Picher. His home is at Webb City, Missouri, but he has been employed in the Picher field for the last three years and is well known here.
Picher Oklahoma, April 28.---Rufus Nolan of Webb City, Missouri, a general ground foreman of the Wade Zinc Company, died at a local hospital about 3 am this morning as the result of injuries received at Wade Mine No. 2 yesterday when an emery wheel broke while being operated at high speed. A large piece of the wheel struck him on the right side of his head, fracturing the skull, mutilating the eye and lacerating the face. He lapsed into unconsciousness about 8 o'clock last night and gradually became weaker.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Katherine Nolan, he is survived by three children, Emma Nolan, 19, Susie Nolan, 15, and Rufus George Nolan, 12. Mr. Nolan was an uncle of Joe Nolan, of this city. He is also survived by three brothers, Anthony Nolan, employed as ground foreman at the Royal Mine; Jacob Nolan, also of Picher Oklahoma, and Cleveland Nolan, of Mitchell Missouri, who is also employed as a miner. Mr. Nolan had spent most of his life as a miner, the last eight years having been devoted to the work in Picher. He was one of the best known miners of the Picher Oklahoma hard rock lead and zinc district. He resided at 607 West Daugherty street, Webb City Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at the family home at Webb City at 2:30 Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, near Webb City. The funeral will be under the direction of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher.

A large piece of the wheel struck him on the right side of his head, fracturing the skull, destroying an eye and lacerating the face. He lapsed into unconsciousness about 6 last night and gradually grew weaker. Funeral services will be held at the family home at Webb City at 2:30 Thursday. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.

Mrs. Katherine B. Nolan, widow of Rufus G. Nolan, Picher Oklahoma, who was injured fatally April 27, last, when an emery wheel which he was operating at Wade Mine bursted and a section of it fractured this skull, was awarded two judgments, totaling $3,500, against Tom L. Wade, operator of the mine, in district court. Nolan was general ground foreman at the mine.
