Roy L. Miller, 33, of Galena Kansas, was killed instantly at 2:30 pm Friday when dynamite he was tamping into a drilled mine hole exploded. The accident occurred at the Scott Mine of the Jane E. Mining Company, 2 miles southwest of Baxter Springs Kansas in Ottawa county Oklahoma. Miller was standing directly before the hole he was loading. His body was mangled. Two other men, working in the same drift some distance away, were uninjured. Miller was employed as a machine man. He lived at North Empire street, Galena, for the past 12 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dora Miller, and four children, Roy, Miller, Jr., 9; Mary Ellen Miller, 7; Jackie Miller, 4: and Bonnie Lou Miller, 2, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Rosa White of Joplin; two brothers, John R. Miller in the armed forces in the South Pacific, and Thurman L. Miller of Joplin Missouri; a half-brother, James Holden of Joplin, and four sisters, Mrs. Roy Dean, Mrs. Gertrude Cox, Mrs. Jarvis Wilson and Mrs. James White of Joplin.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the Assembly of God church, Galena, with the Rev. Dow Booe officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest cemetery, west of Galena, under the direction of Hoskins-Wene funeral home.
