Metz, Morris
Emma Gordon Mine
Morris Metz was killed and F. Charbeneau seriously injured in the Emma Gordon Mine north of town shortly after 6 o'clock last night, when the men drilled into a shot which the day force had put in but which had failed to go off.
During the late afternoon the day crew put in a number of shots in that portion of the mine where the explosion occurred. Among the number was one which failed to go off. Being forgotten by the day shift, the men on the night shift were not informed of the shot in the ground when the change was made at 6 o'clock.
Metz, Charbeneau and another miner were working in that section of the mine when the accident occurred. They had just started to drill, preparatory to putting in another round of shots. The drill ran through the loaded hole and caused the charge to explode, throwing the men to the ground with terrific force, killing Metz and seriously injured F. Charbeneau. His face and head were horribly torn by the flying rocks and debris. Charbeneau received numerous bruises about the face and body. His arm was broken, his face badly burned and his body bruised. His injuries are not considered dangerous. Both men were removed to this city, where Charbeneau was given medical attention. An inquest over the body of Metz is being held today.
Charbeneau, the miner who was injured by an explosion at the Emma Gordon Mine, is reported to be greatly improved, but sustains the loss of one eye.
Frank Charbineau, Hattenville Oklahoma, who was injured some time ago in an explosion at the Emma Gordon Mine is reported to be very low and not expected to recover. Mr. Charbineau had gone back to work but is seems that he did not fully recover from the accident and is now reported to be in bad condition. Note: Did not find a follow up of Mr. Charbineau.
