Picher Oklahoma, June 12.--Cecil S. Luman, 25 years old, 640 Ella street, Picher, was fatally injured and Boice D. Bradley, 45 years old, seriously hurt by a falling slab in a drift of the Beck Mining Company, northeast of Picher at 7:30 Monday night, Jun 11, 1923. Both men were pinned under the debris for approximately an hour. Luman died at American hospital at Picher at 9:10 as a result of a fractured skull. Bradley left the hospital two hours after the accident. Luman, a shoveler, and Bradley, a "bruno" man, were working with several others in a small drift from the hard rock lead and zinc field shaft when the rock fell without warning, covering both. It was thought by mine officials that the mishap was caused by heavy rains in the last several weeks. The fallen slab was composed of soapstone and solid rock. Rescue work was impaired by the small dimensions of the drift, which prevented miners from working freely.

Other miners who were in the drift at the time the accident occurred called to men at the top for assistance and began to search under the debris for the buried men. They reached them with difficulty. Both men were taken to the hospital in an ambulance of the Green-Stephens undertaking company. Bradley suffered severe lacerations on the head, face and body, a broken left ankle and right knee.

Luman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Georgia Luman; a 2 year old son, Jack Luman; father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Luman, 540 Ottawa street, Picher, and three sisters, Grace Luman and Thelma Luman, who live with their parents, and Mrs. Sam Fulcher, Fourth and Netta streets, Picher. Luman's body is at the parlors of the Green- Stephens undertaking company awaiting funeral arrangements. The funeral will be held Thursday.

Bradley is unmarried. He has a brother who works at the same mine.
