Baxter Springs Kansas, Oct 27--John Lucas of Miami, formerly of Granby Missouri, was killed instantly about noon today, when a slab fell on him, while he was working at the Perue Mine, three miles southwest of Baxter. Lucas was trimming the roof and had just stepped from the ladder when the slab fell on him killing him instantly. Two miners who were working several feet from him, escaped injury. The ambulance of the Porter Clark undertaking company was called and the body was brought to the morgue in Baxter. J. W. Lucas, a married man, was killed by a falling slab. Interment was at the Bluejacket Oklahoma cemetery.
