Baxter Springs Kansas Melvin Jones, 54 years old, was fatally injured this noon at the Peru Mine, southwest of Baxter, when he was struck by a falling boulder at the mill shaft. He died 40 minutes later on the way to a Joplin Missouri hospital after being given first aid at a local physician's office. Jones' home was at Seventh and Washington avenue. He is survived by his father, C. M. Jones of Girard Kansas.
