Picher Oklahoma, Aug. 11.--Edward Spencer, 44 years old, of Douthat Oklahoma, and Clyde Jones, 28, of Miami, were instantly killed and Charles Ryan of Cardin Oklahoma, was slightly injured at the Tom L. Mine, one and one- half miles southwest of Picher, shortly after 2 this afternoon when struck by a falling slab. Spencer was employed as a machine man. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Spencer, and three children. The children are Mrs. Roy Welch of Hockerville Oklahoma, and Orville Spencer and Samuel Spencer, at home. Jones was employed as a shoveler. His wife, Mrs. Marie Jones, and an 8 year old son survive. Hospital attendants said that Ryan's condition is not serious. Arrangements for the funeral of the two victims are incomplete.
Picher Oklahoma, Aug. 11 Two hard rock lead and zinc miners were killed instantly about 2 o'clock this afternoon when caught beneath a falling slab at the Tom L. Mine, one and one-half miles southwest of Picher. They were: Clyde Jones, 28 years old, who lived at 12 C street southeast, Miami, and Edward Spencer, 44, Douthat Oklahoma. Jones leaves his widow, Mrs. Marie Jones, and one child, Billy Jones, eight years old. He was employed at the mine as a shoveler.
Spencer, who was a machine man at the mine, is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Spencer; two sons, Orville Jones, 16, and Samuel Jones, 11, both of the home, and one daughter, Mrs. Roy Welch of Hockerville Oklahoma.
The bodies of both men are at the Todd undertaking company, of Picher. Funeral arrangements have not been made. The Tom L. Mine is operated by the Quapaw Mining Company.
Picher Oklahoma, Aug. 12 Funeral services for Clyde Jones, 28 years old, of Miami, who was killed at the Tom L. Mine yesterday afternoon when struck by a falling slab, will be held at the home of the father, Charles Jones, Frontenac Kansas, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial will be at Frontenac.
Arrangements have not been completed for the funeral of Edward Spencer, 44, of Douthat Oklahoma, a second victim of the accident. It is expected that the funeral of Spencer will be held Sunday afternoon. The Todd undertaking company, of Picher will be in charge of both funerals.
The condition of Charles Ryan of Cardin Oklahoma, who narrowly escaped death, is reported by American hospital at Picher, by attendants to be improved. He suffered cuts and bruises about the body. His condition is not regarded as serious.
Jones was married and besides his wife, Mrs. Marie Jones, is survived by an 8-year-old stepson, Billie; his father, and five brothers. Jones was a shoveler.
Spencer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Spencer, and three children. The children are Mrs. Roy Welch of Hockerville Oklahoma, Orville Spencer, 16, and Samuel Spencer, 12, at home. Spencer was a machine man.
The funeral of Edward Spencer, 44 years old, who was killed in an accident at the Tom L. Mine Wednesday, will be held from the Baptist church in Douthat Oklahoma at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be at Pucell Missouri. The funeral will be under the direction of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher Oklahoma.
Funeral services for Clyde Jones, 28 years old, who was killed Wednesday afternoon when caught beneath a falling slab at the Tom L. Mine, where he was employed as a shoveler, will be at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at 5:40 Ottawa street, Picher Oklahoma. Burial will be in the Byrd cemetery at Pittsburg Kansas, under direction of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Marie Jones, and one child, Billy Jones, eight years old.
