Miami Record Herald · Aug 25 1919 · Pg 1 · Col 6

Picher Oklahoma, Aug 25 Leon Hutchison, 19 years old, a machine helper was instantly killed by a 260 foot fall down a shaft at the Eagle-Picher Mine No. 15, while he was repairing or working on a water line, Sunday morning. The exact manner in which the fall was caused has not been fully explained. One report says that a board on which he was standing gave way or tilted. He lit on his head at the bottom of the shaft, and death was instantaneous, as his neck and several other bones were broken by the fall. His watch, which stopped as he struck the bottom of the shaft, showed the time of the accident to be 10:44 o'clock. An ambulance took the body to the morgue of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher.

Hutchison was single and lived at 426 Emily street, Picher Oklahoma, with his father, Charles Hutchison, a powder man at Picher Mine No. 20, and a brother, Hugh Hutchison, 12 years old, at the same address. The body will be sent to Neosho Missouri, where funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Golden cemetery where burial will follow.
