Otto Hulen, 24 years old, a miner, living at Webb City, while working in a drift of the Mercantile Mine near Duenweg Missouri, was struck by a falling slab Tuesday morning at 10:15 o'clock and was fatally injured. The slab crushed both of Hulen's legs near the hips and injured him infernally. It required the combined efforts of five men to lift the rock from his body. When his fellow workmen lifted the rock the deep impression that his body had left in the ground, caused by the heavy weight of the slab, could be seen. He was taken to St. John's hospital in Joplin Missouri where an operation was performed upon him Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Hulen was formerly of Miami.
