Miami News Record · Oct 02 1925 · Pg 2

Elmer Hiner, Miami man, reported killed Thursday afternoon in a mine accident, walked into his home at 407 F street northeast, Miami, shortly before 4 pm. Mr. Hiner and members of his family are attempting to find an explanation for his reported death. At noon Thursday a man went to the Hiner residence. Mrs. Hiner answered his knock at the door. "I have bad news for you," he told her and handed her a note. He left before she read it.

The note informed her that Mr. Hiner had been killed and that his body would arrive at the home sometime in the afternoon. Mrs. Hiner began an investigation. She notified her father and he went to the mine. He returned with Mr. Hiner, who had heard nothing of any accident, much less being in one. Mrs. Hiner said he did not know the man who brought her the note. Undertakers were busy Thursday afternoon answering inquiries about the reported accident.
