Hays, Albert M.
Age 36
Lucky OK Mine
Albert M. Hays, 36 years old, was instantly killed and Malvin Bartzell, 23 years old, fatally injured at the Lucky O. K. Mine near Hockerville Oklahoma early Sunday night when they drilled into an unexploded charge of dynamite. Hays' body was badly mangled by the explosion. Bartzell had both eyes put out and both arms blown off. He was rushed to the Baxter Springs Kansas hospital in the Clark ambulance from Picher Oklahoma. He regained consciousness Monday, but physicians say that he cannot live. His home is in Bartlesville Oklahoma. Hays has a mother living at Rogers Arkansas, and his body will be shipped there for burial.
The two miners were unaware that the explosive charge had not exploded when it was put in on the previous day. They were working directly over it when it exploded. Hays has a brother, Clark Hays, who lives at Picher.
