Picher Oklahoma, Jun 22 Walter Grube, 40 year old Baxter Springs Kansas Route 2 miner, was drowned when he fell from an ore can while being lowered into a mine shaft near Quapaw Oklahoma today.

A working companion, Jim Thomas, was still under observation in Picher hospital, at Picher, at 1 pm. He was said to have been rescued by fellow workers after he toppled with Grube to the base of the shaft. Depth of the water in the shaft was not known at once. Thomas, a report said, was believed to be out of danger, but physicians could not be reached immediately for a report on his condition.

Grube lost his life when the derrick, used to raise and lower ore and men into, and out, of the shaft, broke down. The accident occurred at the Crope Mine lease said to be operated by Harold Conley of Miami and Bill Gonce of Baxter Springs. A resident of in and around Quapaw for 23 years, Grube is survived by his wife, Virgie Grube; five sons, Walter Grube, Jr., Clifford Grube, Jimmy Grube, Lee Grube and Butch Grube, and three daughters, Christine Grube, Jenny Grube and Violet Grube, all of the home.
