Jess Graves, 56 year old Picher Oklahoma hard rock lead and zinc powderman employed by Huron Horine, district shovel contractor, was killed at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when an avalanche of hard rock lead and zinc tailings crashed down on him at the See-Sah Mine, a mile south of Cardin Oklahoma.

Graves was working at his job preparing blasts when a tailing slide started at the top of the chat pile, plunged suddenly down, burying him under six feet of gravel. Rescue workers recovered the body in 20 minutes and it was taken to the Picher hospital where efforts to revive him proved futile after three hours. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Callie Leona Graves, at the home, 465 South Ella street, Picher Oklahoma; three sons, Charles Graves of Richmond, California, Edgar Graves of Picher and James Leroy Graves in the armed forces; a daughter, Mrs. Jewell Ford of Seattle, Washington; a brother, Louis Graves of Picher Oklahoma, and nine grandchildren. The body is at the Durnil funeral home of Picher awaiting arrangements to be made by out of state relatives.

Funeral services for Jesse James Graves, who died Feb 15, will be held at the Durnil chapel, Picher Oklahoma, at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon. The Rev. O. W. Prescott of Miami officiating. Burial will be made in the G.A.R. cemetery at Miami under the direction of the Durnil funeral home. Note: The microfilm is bad and It is not possible to read the names of the pallbearers.
