Galena Kansas, Nov 21 John Gleason, 65 years old, died at 1:30 this afternoon in a hospital at Joplin Missouri from injuries he received about 11 this morning when a platform on which he was working at Happy Hollow Mine, two and a half miles southeast of Galena Kansas, broke and let him fall into a mine shaft. He fell about thirty feet. Gleason suffered a fractured skull, several crushed ribs, internal injuries and lacerations about the head. He was taken to the hospital in a Clark ambulance. Gleason had resided in Galena Kansas about forty years. He was an old time hard rock lead and zinc miner here. He served one year as night patrolman on the police force during a former administration of Mayor C. H. Jones. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. lodge. He resided at Eleventh and Kellar streets, Galena.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Clinta Gleason; a daughter, Myrtle Gleason of Los Angeles California; a son, Merril Gleason of Oklahoma City; two step-daughters, Mrs. Iva Cupp and Mrs. Herman Jackson, both of Galena Kansas; a step-son, Baccus Derfelt of Galena; a grandson and several step-grandchildren. The body was brought to Galena. Note: Burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, Cherokee County, Kansas.
