Picher Oklahoma, March 28--Floyd M. Garrett, 28 years old, a machine man at the Golden Hawk Mine, southwest of Picher, was fatally injured in a premature explosion at 3:30 yesterday afternoon. He died at Picher hospital 30 minutes after the accident occurred. He was rushed to the hospital in a Todd ambulance from Picher. Garrett was loading a hole he had drilled preparatory to blasting and accidentally struck a dynamite cap with a tamping bar, which caused the explosion. He received injuries to his head, face and body. Both arms were blown off.

Earl Younger, powder man at the mine, who lives at the Rubenstein Apartments, was near Garrett at the time of the explosion and narrowly escaped serious injury. Fortunately he was behind a pillar when the blast occurred.

Garrett lived with his parents on a farm near Bluejacket Oklahoma.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Garrett, three sisters, Mrs. Marie Smith of Houston Texas, Mrs. Bertha McKinney of Weed New Mexico, and Mrs. Nell Curtwright of Redfield Arkansas; and three brothers, Woodrow Garrett of Houston, Paul Garrett at home, and Jess Garrett of Bluejacket.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the parlor of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher.

Funeral rites for Floyd M. Garrett, 28 years old, who was fatally injured at the Golden Hawk Mine Wednesday in a premature explosion, will be observed at the Bluejacket Oklahoma Baptist church at 2 tomorrow afternoon. The officiating clergyman will be the Rev. C. E. Bergen, pastor of the local Baptist church. Pallbearers will be employees of the Golden Hawk Mine. Burial will be at Bluejacket. The Todd undertaking company, of Picher Oklahoma will be in charge of the funeral.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Morris, 118 South Frisco street, attended the funeral at Bluejacket Cemetery at Bluejacket Oklahoma yesterday afternoon of Floyd M. Garrett, who was fatally injured at the Golden Hawk Mine Wednesday.
