Foreman, Olney Warren "Harry"
Picher Mine No. 9
Picher Oklahoma, Feb. 15 Four men, Harry Foreman, supply man; Joseph Edwards, machine man; W. C. Bransteter and Frank Huddleston, shovelers, were dropped and seriously injured in an accident at the Picher Mine No. 9, Friday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock. The shaft is 270 feet deep and from the slack in the cable, miners witnessing the accident, say the men must have been dropped for about one-fourth the distance of the shaft. The miners were the last to enter the ground, after the noon hour and as the can began to descend, the hoister became uncontrollable apparently, and in an effort of the hoisterman to stop the force of the descent before the can bumped against the platform, the brake bolt is said to have broke and the men plunged to the bottom with the can. Ambulances were called and the miners rushed to the Picher hospital, Picher Oklahoma. Edwards and Foreman were injured the most, the former having a broken hip and the latter a broken leg. All were badly bruised and cut but each of the men are expected to recover.
Guy Branstetter, of our town, had the misfortune to sustain a fall in the Blue Mound Mine last night. Two other men went down at the same time whose names we did not learn. All three men were taken to the Picher hospital, at Picher Oklahoma, and the other men are worse off than our townsman, though he has a leg broken in two places.
