Bethel Mine

Earl Ellis, 18 years old, a miner employed at the mine of the Bethel Lead and Zinc Company at Tar River Oklahoma, [now Cardin] was instantly killed in an accident which occurred at the mine about 10:30 o'clock Friday morning. The body was taken to the Todd undertaking parlor at Picher.

Young Ellis, who was employed as a bumper, was near the shaft when a large rock fell down the shaft and struck him with great force. He was killed instantly, according to surgeons who were summoned.

The youth's home was at Baxter Springs Kansas, where his parents reside. He had a brother, L. Ellis, who was employed at the same mine; another brother was employed at an adjoining mine.

Picher Oklahoma, Sept. 20 Funeral services for Earl Ellis, 19 years old, who was killed in an accident at the Bethel Mine at Cardin Oklahoma Friday morning, were conducted at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ellis, Twenty-sixth and Lincoln streets Baxter Springs Kansas, Saturday afternoon. The body was shipped to Monett Missouri, for burial.
