Picher Oklahoma, May 10.--John Richard Dixon, 17 years old, was instantly killed at 9:30 am this morning at the Dorothy Bill Mine near Hockerville Oklahoma, where he was employed as a mule driver in the hard rock lead and zinc mine. Dixon was assisting a machine man in setting up his machine when a slide of boulders and dirt fell from the side of the wall, complete covering him. The youth received a crushed skull, his head was almost severed from his body and his arms broken.
Dixon had been employed at the mine for more than a month as mule driver. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Cora Dixon, 218 West Second street, Picher; a brother, Charles Dixon; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Roberts and Mrs. Ethel Williams of Picher, and Mrs. Minnie Thomas of Webb City Missouri
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Friday, at the Union church. The Rev. Wesley Post will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami. Pallbearers will be employees of the mine. The funeral will be under the direction of the Green undertaking company of Picher Oklahoma.
John R. Dixon, 17 year old, who was killed Thursday morning at the Dorothy Bill Mine near Hockerville Oklahoma, is survived by two brothers, James Dixon and Charles Dixon, both of Picher Oklahoma. The former was not listed among the surviving relatives in the funeral notice. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Cora Dixon and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Roberts, Mrs. Ethel Williams and Mrs. Minnie Thomas.
