A 59 year old miner was killed about 2:15 o'clock Friday afternoon when a boulder dislodged from the roof of the Marlene Ann Mine, Rialto Mine No. 2, and struck him in the head. Eddie"Bus"Collins, 500 south Vantage street, Picher Oklahoma, reportedly died instantaneously. The body was received by the Paul Thomas funeral home of Picher. Mr. Collins reportedly was working in the mine when the accident occurred, according to state mine inspector Hawk Hall.
Several rocks fell from the mine roof when the boulder dislodged, but on one else was injured. Cause of the falling rocks was not determined. The mine is owned by American Lead and Zinc Mining Company. Born May 29, 1906, in Arkansas, Mr. Collins had lived in Picher Oklahoma since 1934. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Juanita Collins; four sons, Don Collins, Allen Collins and Danny Collins, all of Kansas City Kansas, and Jimmie Collins of Picher; two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Frie and Mrs. Gail Campbell, both of Kansas City Kansas; three brothers, Alvin Collins, Miami, James Collins, Quapaw Oklahoma and John Collins, Long Beach, California, and nine grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Paul Thomas funeral home of Picher.
Picher Oklahoma Funeral services for Eddie"Bus"Collins, 59 years old, 506 South Vantage street, Picher, who was killed Friday after-noon in a mine accident, will be at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in Paul Thomas chapel at Picher. The Rev. Robert Nichols will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery, Miami Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Ellis Harmon, Gabe McKinzie, Elmer DeGraff, Jerry Fezell, Frank Frazier and Junior Houk. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul McNeely, Frank Barton, Nick Thomas, Box Jones, D. E. Turley and Holley Enyart.
