Cardin Oklahoma, Jan. 28 Charles D. Battin, a 22 year old Carl Junction Missouri, man was crushed to death when a rock slab fell on him at the Eagle-Picher Mining and Smelting Company's Anna Beaver Mine, three-quarters of a mile north of here, at 9 am today.

A machine operator's helper, Battin was working 300 feet underground, one-fourth of a mile south of the shaft when he was killed. The hard rock lead and zinc miner was pronounced dead on arrival at the Picher hospital, in Picher, in a Thomas funeral home ambulance, Byron Hutchens, the company's safety engineer said. The machine operator who was working with Battin was not hurt when the slab fell from the roof. Battin is survived by his wife of the home in Carl Junction.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Battin and son, Donald Barrin, of Shoshoni Wyoming, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown of Joplin Missouri visited Mr. and Mrs. Brady Holt and family Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Battin came here following the death of the former's son, Charles D. Battin of Carl Junction Missouri.
