Lincolnville Oklahoma chat slide

Miami Daily Record Herald · Aug 12 1918 · Pg 6 · Col 7

James E. Ball, 11 years old, was killed at Lincolnville Oklahoma, Sunday night, when he was buried by an overhanging ledge of chat that fell upon him. The boy's body was recovered with difficulty. Physicians said the boy died of internal injuries. He was buried under tons of chats that crushed out his life. Young Ball was playing beneath the ledge, when it fell without warning. Other children gave the alarm and a force of workmen began digging into the huge pile. In the meantime, a telephone call to Miami caused Chief Kurtz to hasten to the scene with the pulmotor.
