Picher Oklahoma, March 30. John Wesley Baker, 45 years old, of Chetopa Kansas, was instantly killed in a slab fall at the Jeff City Mine of the Cortez-King Brand Mining Company at 3 this afternoon. Andrew Long of Picher was badly bruised. Both were shovelers at the hard rock lead and zinc mine. Long was taken to the American hospital in an ambulance of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher. His condition is not considered serious.

Baker is survived by a wife, three children and three step-children. Funeral services will be held at the residence at Chetopa Kansas at 2 Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery at Chetopa.

Picher Oklahoma, March 31 John Wesley Baker, 45 years old, of Chetopa Kansas, was instantly killed and Andrew Long of Picher was severely injured at the Jeff City Mine late Tuesday afternoon when struck by a falling slab. Both men were employed as shovelers and were working within a few feet of each other. The two men had just finished loading a large boulder and had walked only a short distance apart when a large slab suddenly fell. Long narrowly escaped death. Baker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Baker, three children and three step- children. The condition of Long was reported today by American hospital attendants as being improved, his injuries consisting of bruises and cuts about the body.

Funeral services for Mr. Baker will be held at the family home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery at Chetopa Kansas, under direction of the Todd undertaking company, of Picher.
