Arnhart, Henry
Henry Arnhart, age 22, and Burley Axley, age 20, were instantly killed Tuesday afternoon, abut 3:45 o'clock, in the Katy Mine at Lincolnville Oklahoma by a falling slab. Theodore Hudson, ground boss, was slightly hurt about the head, by a glancing blow of the slab. The huge slab fell without a moment's warning and caught the two unfortunate men who were working under it. It fell from the roof about a distance of about 22 feet. It was sharp edged and slightly tilting in the fall and caught one of the men with its sharp edge cutting his body in two. The other miner was crushed to death by its great weight. The bodies of the two men were taken from beneath the huge slab an hour after the accident. Hudson and another man, together with the two who were killed, were working directly under the slab, but the former men had shifted positions slightly, just before the fall, and thus narrowly escaped with their lives.
Hudson lives in Baxter Springs Kansas. Arnhart was married and is survived by a wife. Axley was unmarried. Both men lived in Lincolnville Oklahoma. They were buried in the Baxter Springs cemetery Wednesday afternoon.
