Abstract Data

Mrs. James W. Swarts, died. Born Duluth Georgia, Sep 22, 1884. Married James W. Swarts Feb 26, 1908. The community was saddened last Thursday by the news of the death of Mrs. J. W. Swarts of this city, which occurred in a hospital at Coffeyville Kansas. The announcement was more of a shock to the many friends in Miami than might have been expected had not word been received a couple of days previously, in the effect that Mrs. Swarts had successfully undergone an operation and was recovering nicely. On Monday, night the operation had been performed and on Thursday after she had seemed to be getting better, there came a sudden relapse and all medical assistance was of no avail. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Strickland, 709 Willow street, Cofffeyville Kansas. A large concourse was present to attend the last sad rites, including about thirty of the Miami friends of Mr. and Mrs. Swarts. Those who went from here, driving over in autos were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Browning, Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Adams, Mrs. W. L. McWilliams, Mrs. J. J. Shoe, Mrs. M. C. Falkenbury, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ballard, Mrs. B. H. Correll, Mr. and Mrs. George Whipple and two children, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Pence, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Thompson and son, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. W. Kitchen, Ray McNaughton, J. L. Speer, Dr. H. E. DeWess, George Stein, W. S. Harned, Ed Geren and Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Martin. From a Coffeyville paper: The funeral of Mrs. Katherine Swarts, of Miami Oklahoma, who died Thursday, Jul 20th at the Southeastern Kansas hospital, following a caesarian operation, was held from the home of her parents...with interment at Fairview cemetery. The burial services of the Episcopal church of which the deceased was a devoted member, was conducted by Rev. George Gibbs of Okmulgee Oklahoma, assisted by Rev. Harry Watts of the local church. The services were doubly sad and impressive because of the christening of the infant son, James Strickland Swarts, just previous to the funeral services. ....
