Abstract Data
Private Young, 30 years old, was killed in action Apr 8, 1945 in Germany, according to word received by his uncle and aunt, Mrs. And Mrs. Kenneth Elliott of Baxter Springs. He was born in Cardin Oklahoma and grew to manhood in the Tri-State district, attending the Picher and Columbus Kansas public schools and Junior College in Miami. He was inducted into the Army in February 1944 and took his basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky. He had been over seas about 8 months and was in a tank division. He was previously wounded in action last November, 1944 and had been back with his unit only four or five weeks when killed. On Apr 17, 1945, the newspaper received a letter from his mother, Mrs. J. D. Walter Green of Tulsa Oklahoma, stating that he had recently gone back to active service, after being a hospital in England. Note: The Miami G.A.R. cemetery's records indicate Private was re-buried there in 1948.
