Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith, 632 South Cherokee street, Picher, received a letter from their son Staff Sgt Homer Lee Smith, who has been a prisoner of war since June 8, 1944, at Camp Stalag Luft 4, east Prussian. The letter was dated Jul 29, 1944, and told that his right arm which was hurt when his plane was shot down at Nantzes France prior to his being taken prisoner was healing. Smith also stated that he had seen Leonard Cruzan, another Picher boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Cruzan who also is a prisoner at the camp. Sgt. Smith was a tall-gunner on a B-24 bomber.
