three miners were injured when a 'shot' of dynamite exploded accidently in the ground at the Scott Mine, four miles south of Baxter Springs Kansas at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Jul 18, 1945. John Carmack of this city, a machine man, suffered injuries to his head, arms and hands. Lloyd Curry also of Picher, a machinist helper, and A. J. Scott of Columbus Kansas, a shoveler, received minor injuries. Carmack and Curry were brought to the Picher hospital, Picher in an ambulance while Scott drove his own car.
