was taken to the Picher hospital early Wednesday morning for a medical check-up and obervance. Chief Safford took ill Tuesday and was confined to his home all that day. It is not known whether an operation will be necessary or not.

a photo. Chief Safford, Picher city Fire chief dies early Tuesday morning. Death comes after one week of serious illness at a hospital in Stella Missouri, following a major operation. Age 43, he died 6:50 Tuesday morning on Jan 30, 1945, following surgery last week. He has been connected with the local fire department for approximately 22 years, being one of its first members and for the past eleven years he has been Fire Chief. ... survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Safford, and two step-sons Earl Safford and Eugene Safford of Picher, and a sister, Mrs. Tom Price of Leavenworth Kansas, an uncle L. Helen Safford received a copy of a Resolution of Respect introduced in the House of State Representatives and passed by that body in Memoriam of the passing of Chief Safford. The resolution No. 14, was introduced by Miss Mona Jean Russell, Representative of this district and a personal friend of Chief Safford.
