a telegram was received Monday evening by George W. Randolph, 316 Est Columbus street, Picher, stating: 'Second Lieutenant Randolph was killed in action in Pacific area Dec 15, 1944 while being transported aboard a Japanese vessel.' And it is presumed that he was aboard a Japanese ship that was sunk either by a submarine or bombs as he was being taken off the Island or interment in Japan, as he had been a prisoner since the fall of the Phillippines early in 1942. He had entered the Army in the spring of 1941, and landed in the Philippines on Sep 25, 1942, almost three months before the Jap forces invaded Luzon. He was 26 years old and a graduate of the Grove Oklahoma high school with the class of 1940. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Gladys Harrin; his stepmother, Mrs. George Randolph; one brother Gene Randolph with the US Navy somewhere in the Pacific area and a stepbrother, John Ford also with the Navy. No burial information given, or if burial was possible.
