Pvt. Poole, 20 year old Picher Infantryman, is in Bushnell hospital at Brigham Utah, undergoing an amputation of his left foot above the ankle, according to his brother Frank Poole, east F street, Picher, who returned Monday morning from a short visit with his brother. Pvt Poole received his injury during a counter-attack with the Ninth Army in Germany on Jan 12, 1945. He had stepped on a land mine which blew up, injuring Poole and killing his buddy. He served with the Army overseas for one year, 11 months of which he spent in France with the transportation corps. He attended Columbus Kansas and Picher Schools, graduating from Picher high in 1943.A brother, Private George Poole, who is a paratrooper, serving with the famed 101st Airborne infantry with Patton's Third Army in Belgium. He expects to be hospitalized for 90 days when he will get a 30 day furlough to spend here with his mother, Mrs. Helen Poole of Blue Mound district and brother, Frank Poole and other relatives. He will be required to report back to the Utah hospital for another 90 day treatment following his furlough.
