Abstract Data
Andrew J. Littledave, 42 years old of Miami was killed and his helper John Daniels, 24 of Picher Oklahoma was injured about 3:30 Saturday afternoon in an explosion at the Westside Mine No. 2, north of Picher. The two were employed as machine men and it is reported that they were loading a hole and the explosion apparently occurred as they were tampering in a shot of dynamite. Twelve rounds of shots went off it was reported. Littledave's body was badly mutilated by the explosion and was buried under several tons of rock and dirt and was recovered about 4 hours after the accident. It is stated that Daniels ran when the first shot exploded and he was found about 200 yards from the first shot with a fractured left leg and cuts and bruises on his body. Evidently flying debris from the series of explosions had struck him down. He was rushed to the Picher hospital by a Durnil ambulance of Picher and his injuries were said not to be serious. Littledave's body was brought to the Durnil funeral home where it remained until Tuesday evening when it was taken to the home at 509 B street southeast, Miami. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday morning at 10 am and burial was made in the cemetery at Salina Oklahoma. Littledave was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge at Miami who conducted services at the grave. He also was a Royal Purple degree member of Ottawa Encampment No. 24 at Picher.

Hamilton and Gipson were killed at about 11:30 am Saturday at the Bilharz Mine, a mile and a half northwest of Baxter Springs Kansas, when about 60 tons of rock from the mine's sidewall rolled down the stope and completely buried them.
