Private First Class Kingfisher, 19 years old infantryman was killed in action somewhere in Germany on Jan 12, 1945, according to word received in Picher by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Kingfisher. He had been in service only a short time before he was sent overseas in October. He had been in the service nine months. Note: According to cemetery records, re-burial was in the G.A.R. cemetery at Miami on Apr 3, 1948.

With the 78th Infantry Division in Germany; Private First Class Duke Kingfisher, husband of Mrs. Margaret J. Kingfisher, of Picher has been awarded the Combat Infantryman' Badge for exemplary conduct in action against the enemy. He is serving with a rifle company in the 309th Infantry Regiment. Note: It is difficult to understand this notice since PFC Kingfisher was killed in action on Jan 12, 1945.
