Garner, Charles Raymond
Abstract Data
Perhaps it was modesty which affected the blonde curly haired 3 year old Charles Raymond Garner, son of Mr and Mrs. Charley Garner, residents of East 1 street Picher Oklahoma, and little thought had he of exciting a hundred persons, last Monday morning when he quietly crawled under his bed for a nap after being teased by his older brother Earl Garner and fried Theodore Cruzan for using his sister's lipstick. But the older sister, Erma Garner missed him and being far more interested in his whereabouts, than worried over the loss of a little lipstick, she sounded the alarm which brought the Picher police department and the Picher fire department to the scene. In the meantime more than 100 persons were attracted to the vicinity of the Garner home to search for the missing boy. While the firemen and others ,directed by Police Chief Al Maness, dragged Lytle creek and nearby mill-ponds, a call was sent out for Boy Scouts to mobilize a searching party. The search continued for an hour and a half, or from 10 o'clock until about 11:30, when the elder brother Earl and Scoutmaster Theodore Cruzan, decided to look under the bed for the lost youngster, where he was found sound asleep and not aware of the fact the community was alarmed over his supposed disappearance. The child's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Garner were at Neosho picking strawberries during the time of the excitement.
