President of the First State Bank, Picher. A flash back to February 24, 1930 when the bank was moved from Hockerville to its present location on the corner of Second and Main street, Picher. It had assets of only $75,00o0, while today, or at its last published financial statement assets were listed at more than one million dollars. Mr. chambers has been connected with the bank since 1918 when it was started in Hockerville and took in its first deposit. The last John Newton was its first president. The bank opened for business in Picher in 1930, during the era of bank failures, with two other banks already in Picher, Mr. Chambers stated that most folks, if they had any money, carrying it around in their pockets...
