age 64 years old, a pioneer mining man of the district, died at 9:30 Tuesday morning, Jun 5, 1945 at the family residence on East ! Street, Picher, after a brief illness. He had suffered an heart attack about four months ago and had not been well since that time. He was born in Carthage Missouri and started working in the mines as a pump man when a boy. He was associated for a number of years with Jesse Short in mine operations around Joplin Missouri and later became associated with the Underwriters Land Company in the operation of the Yellow Dog Golden Glow and Marigold Mines. In 1915 he came to Picher as manager of the Consolidated Lead and zinc Company properties, operating the Stebbins and Craig Mines, 8 in all. As manager of the Carpenter Mining Company, he was operating the Oke and New York Mines at the time of his death. Survived include his widow, Mrs. Ella Carpenter; a son, Ralph Carpenter serving with the Army in Germany; a daughter, Mrs. O. F. Hull of Baxter Springs Kansas, three brothers and two sisters, besides other relatives and many friends.
