age 81, died Nov 23, 2000, Columbia Maryland. Born in Joplin Missouri. A veteran, Mr. James whose grandfather was British, joined the Royal Air Force at a training base in Texas in 1941 then shifted to the U.S. Army Air Force the following year. He served as a liaison pilot, taking generals and politicians into war zones in the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded an Air Medal. Following World War II, he joined the U.S. State department and trained in Bangkod, Thailand, then served as a cultural attache in Panama City, Quito, Ecuador, and La Paz, Bolivia, and had other duties. His wife of 53 years, Elizabeth James, survives him. Burial place is not given.
