Keith and Michelle Herd of Picher Oklahoma filed the first lawsuit of its kind related to the Tar Creek superfund site. The Picher couple is claiming former mining companies are responsible for the lead poisoning of their child. Mining companies named as defendants in the civil suit are: Asarco Inc., of New Jersey; Blue Tee corp., Delaware; Childress Royalty company, Delaware; the Doe Run Resources Corp., New York; Goldfields Mining Corp., N. L. Industries Inc.,, New Jersey; Ore and Mineral Recovery, Inc., Nevada, and R. J. J. Inc., Oklahoma.
