she was born in North Miami Oklahoma the eldest of three children born to W. C. O'Brien and Hattie O'Brien. She began teaching in 1931 in Commerce for a nine-month salary of $630. Married Mike Beard, he preceded her in death in 1990. Burial in the G.A.R. cemetery in Miami.
