Moreland, James Ace

of Miami died Feb 8, 2003, at his home after an illness. He was 50. Born Nov 18, 1952, in Miami to James Ace Moreland and Ila Rae Phelps Moreland. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery in Miami.

He was 3 years old when he received his first guitar... a part Cherokee bluesman, who played the guitar and harmonica, a Miami native, died Saturday about six weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer. An Ace Moreland tribute concert was held on Main street in Joplin Missouri. He began playing locally in bands at the age of 12, eventually meeting Steve Gaines, another Miami guitar player who went on to join the southern rock band Lynard Skynard before being killed in a crash of the band's plane in 1977.
