Abstract Data

age 85, died Jul 30, 2002, in Centreville Virginia, at the home of his nephew, Gary Kanady. An Army veteran, he was a retired as a colonel. He served as a captain in the Army Cavalry in World War II. After training many recruits at Fort Benning Georgia, he participated, along with his younger brother, William Kanady, in the battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany, where he lost his hearing in one ear from the cannons' roar. After victory in Europe, Kanady was reassigned to the occupation forces in Japan. Born in Lawrenceville Illinois to Garland Kanady and Ada Kanady,he went to high school in Miami. Married Elizabeth Anderson of Little Rock Arkansas, she died in 1967. In 1969, he married Rae Griffin Scarburgh, a native of Portsmouth Virginia. An Army widow, Scarburgh was working in the Naval Air Command in Arlington, she died in 1994. Burial at the Churchland Baptist Church cemetery.
