Gardner had lived in Fairland for 24 years before moving to Miami where he had lived for the past 25 years. He and his wife owned and operated restaurants in Miami and Fairland for many years, where Gardner was the chicken fryer on Wednesday nights. He married Helen L. Johnson in Afton on Jul 21,1945. She preceded in death on Jan 21, 2003. Burial in Glen Abbey cemetery, east of Miami.
