Abstract Data

The body of Second Lieutenant John L. Rutherford, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Rutherford, 200 North Vine street in Commerce Oklahoma was expected to arrive in New York last Monday, according to a telegram received by the parents, Friday of last week, from military officials, of Fort Worth Texas. The body will be shipped to Fort Worth, then routed to Miami Oklahoma it was stated. The Mitchelson funeral, Commerce Oklahoma, will received the body. Lieutenant Rutherford lost his life on Aug 3, 1944, near Rushden England with several others of the crew as their bomber had returned from its first mission over Germany. Rutherford was the navigator on the plane. He was a popular youth while living in Commerce and received his high school education here, later going to school in Tulsa Oklahoma, when he enlisted in the air corps.
